Fernand Laforge

Fernand Laforge, or as most knew him “Fergie”, will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and other members of the Whitehorse community.

Fergie was born into a large family in Grand Falls, New Brunswick. After his family moved to Longeuil, Quebec, Fergie, like many Yukoners before him, ventured North with aspirations of finding prosperous employment. In the late 1970’s Fergie worked in the silver mines in the Keno-Elsa region. After a long unionized strike, Fergie sought more stable career prospects and enrolled at Yukon College becoming a Journeymen Heavy Duty Mechanic. It was at college that he met his future wife, Deana. Fergie and Deana decided to plant their roots and raise their children, Rebecca, Christopher, and Jonathan in Whitehorse. Fergie enjoyed a long career with the Yukon Territorial Government. He was very proud that his many years of service and support contributed to the expansion of the Yukon Francophone Society. Fergie was also very active with The White Horse Lion’s Club. He enjoyed carpentry and chopping wood for the family home.

First and foremost, Fergie was always a family man. He worked hard to ensure that his family had every opportunity and privilege. He was there at every 6AM hockey practice and always made sure that the Laforge house had a freshly cut, Yukon tree to decorate every Christmas. Fergie will be remembered for his contagious laugh, jovial and generous personality, and his steadfast love for his family and community. He is survived by his wife Deana, his three children, Rebecca, Christopher (Stephanie), and Jonathan (Lauren), and his three grandchildren, Evelyne, Nova, and Kosi.
