In loving memory ~
It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of husband, dad, grandad and friend, David Gordon Gowenlock. Gord passed peacefully May 21st, 2023 at the age of 88, with his wife Gerry by his side. Dad was born April 1st, 1935 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and lived on Cambridge Avenue in the River Heights area. He had many interests throughout his developing years and had a brilliant mind that always wanted to tinker, build and know how things worked. Upon graduation from Kelvin High School, Gord turned his sights to something he enjoyed; helping others. Gord graduated from the School of Psychiatric Nursing in Selkirk, Manitoba in 1958. There he met the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Geraldine Moorehouse. (Dad liked to joke it was more than 2 life sentences!) They worked together at Selkirk Mental for 35 years. During that time they raised 3 children Todd, Kelly and Tyler. Our family resided on Moody Avenue in Selkirk where many friends and memories were made. For summers on end, our family would spend enjoying various campgrounds throughout the Whiteshell Provincial Park. Dad bought a boat for the family to enjoy. Unfortunately it wasn’t a real performer and didn’t like to run to often… but when it did… Dad was always sure to find the nearest rock! Gord and Gerry retired to Parksville on Vancouver Island in 1990 and even still had the travel bug. Dad would hook up the 26 foot fifth wheel camper and he and mom would head off to Arizona or some other exotic locale. Not sure how or why but dad and mom would somehow end up being “Camp Ambassadors”. Gord would also drag that monster rig from Vancouver Island to Manitoba so he and mom could see all us kids. He always looked so happy to see us! (He did however just reveal recently he hated doing that trip!) “No sweetheart, we cant go through the drive-thru, we don’t fit!” Dad is predeceased by his son Tyler, brother Jack and sister Geraldine Burns. Gord leaves behind to celebrate his life; his wife Gerry, son Todd(Terri), daughter Kelly(Neil), grandchildren; Candace(Justin), Kaitlyn, Brayden, and many other family and friends. Rest in Peace, we love you!
