It is with great sadness that the Murdoch family announces the passing of Lyall Murdoch at the ripe young age of 76.
Lyall was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, failed to grow up in Surrey, B.C., and moved to the Yukon in 1968 (archeologists estimate).
Best known for co-founding the Frantic Follies in 1970, Lyall was a pillar of the arts community. He spent decades bringing laughter to the stage as a performer, writer, director, actor, singer, musician, stage manager, business manager, and janitor. His longevity in the theatre is mainly attributed to the fact that he was virtually unemployable in any other walk of life.
He is survived by his children Nicole and Greg Murdoch, his brother Laurie Murdoch, and many other dear friends and family who were both blessed and traumatized by his sense of humour. He is predeceased by his parents, Grace and Alex Murdoch, and siblings, Jim Murdoch and Margaret Doka.
A service will be held at a later date and will be open to all of Lyall’s friends, family, and fans. His critics are respectfully requested to celebrate privately.
The family would like to take this time to thank the staff at Birch Lodge and Copper Ridge Place for the wonderful care they provided in the last years of Lyall’s life. Lyall would have wanted to extend a personal apology to anyone who felt like they required one. We would also like to thank all of those who laughed at his jokes, and especially those who laughed at the same jokes over and over again for the last 60 years.
He will be greatly missed. Against his wishes, we are ending the final sentence of his obituary with a preposition of.
