Michael William Emslie

Mike was born and raised in River Hebert, NS to Dorothy Mae Fowler and James Emslie. After high school, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a medic serving on the SS Haida. Working as a medic at a BC logging camp, he met Helen in 1966; they started their family and moved to Fort McLeod, Alberta.

In 1971 he began driving for White Pass; his family followed to Whitehorse in 1972. Sometime later, he started driving tour buses. Countless Yukoners were driven by Mike both in, around, and out of the Yukon. Mike was a tireless learner with a photographic memory, with considerable skills in many endeavours (raising lynx; lapidary and woodworking; driver of anything with wheels). He loved birds and gardening, especially his dahlias.

His humour and love for life will be deeply missed by his family – wife Helen; children Michele and Shannon (Carrie); grandchildren Sebastien, Milan, Mikala; sisters Donna, Debbie, Carlotta, Valerie; brothers Roger, James Jr; brothers-in-law Joe (Jenny), Denis, Brock; nieces and nephews Sue (Sherry), Conrad, Jeff (Harmeet); pre-deceased by his parents and son-in-law Gilles.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 15 at the Old Firehall, 1105 Front Street.
