OBITUARY: John Thomas KITCHING (1939-2024)

John Thomas Kitching, 84, of Ste-Foy, Quebec, passed away peacefully at Institut Universitaire de Cardiologie et de Pneumologie de Quebec (IUCPQ) on Feb. 23, 2024.

John was born on April 10, 1939, to Charles and Olive Kitching (nee Doherty) in Quebec City. He attended Quebec High School and after completing post-secondary studies as a draughtsman, he was awarded a certificate from the Professional Engineers of Quebec.

John married his childhood sweetheart, Joy Robertson, on Aug. 29, 1959, and they had four children: Jason, Charles, Kathleen and David. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year.

John worked as an electrical draughtsman for 38 years at Daishowa Pulp and Paper Mill. He had many interests and passions including a lifelong commitment to fitness. John enjoyed chess, sudoku, card playing, bowling, wine making and biking. He was a lifelong parishioner of Trinity Anglican Church and enjoyed the fellowship of the church community.

John is survived by his wife Joy; children: Jason (Solange Jacob); Charles (Cynthia Hooper); Kathleen (Scott Paw- son); David (Rosaleen Glavac); and his six grandchildren: Michael, Alexander, Elizabeth, Emily, Andrew, and Bryan; his sister Shirley (Tom Duncan) and brother, William. John was a devoted family man and was proud of the accomplishments of all of his children and grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his mother and father; and older brother, Trevor, sister-in-law Violet, and niece Cindy; as well as brother-in-law, Tom.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors who cared for John in his final weeks in the palliative care unit at the IUCPQ.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 2 at noon at Trinity Anglican Church, 2687 Chemin des Quatre-Bourgeois, with Reverend Lorraine Otto officiating. A private interment will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations may be made to the IUCPQ palliative care unit (fondation-iucpq.org/je-donne/#don_in_memoriam).
