OBITUARY: WILLIAM HOBART BRACE News Staff Mon, 09/25/2023 - 11:17 Subheader body November 8, 1927 - September 21, 2023 In-page image(s) Body William (Bill) H. Brace, 95, of Weyauwega, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in his home with family by his side on September 21, 2023. Bill was born on November 8, 1927, in Canadian, Texas, to Addison and Alice Brace, brother to Harold Jack Brace. Bill served in the Navy from 1944 - 1947 in the Pacific, and was then stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, after the war. In 1951, he was recalled by the Naval Reserve to serve in Korea. Bill married Loretta Schimkat (from Chicago) on October 4, 1952. After living in Illinois 11 years and working as a brick mason for his father-in-law, and then running a small business, Bill and Lorry decided in 1963 to become full-time farmers (having never before farmed). They purchased a 216-acre farm north of Waupaca and lived there until 1969 when they purchased their next farm just outside of Weyauwega. After selling that in 1979, the family purchased a commercial apple orchard in Waupaca. In 1983, they sold the orchard and Bill went into real estate, selling for Century 21. No matter what career Bill had, he put his whole heart and soul into it. He was a hard worker and a dedicated husband and father. Bill was active in his community, serving on the Weyauwega school board for several years. He was an active church member and held many leadership roles over his life. He was an avid golfer, playing on leagues well into his 90s. He always had time to talk to people, to listen, to make them smile, and show them kindness. He is preceded in death by his son Gregory and is survived by his wife of 70 years, his son Michael and wife Deborah, Loren and wife Pamela, daughter-in-law Shelley, daughter Melinda, and sons David and Christopher. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service for Bill will be held on Saturday, September 30, at 11:30 am at the Refinery Church (310 E Main St., Weyauwega) with Rev. Richard Vanman officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church from 9-11:15 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Weymont Run Country Club.
