It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Ronald (Ron) Fred Holway of the City of Whitehorse on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the age of 94 years.
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his Wife of 65 years, Helen; his children: Debra Thibodeau and Fred (Caroline); son-in-law Norman McIntyre (Catherine); grandchildren: Christopher, Aaron, Jordan, Katelyn, Cory, William, Sarah, Ryan, Kynan and Kaiden along with three great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, siblings and his loving daughter, Rhonda Jean Holway-McIntyre.
Ron was born in Fort St. John, BC and moved to Whitehorse in 1948 for adventure and to get away from farm life. He was a horse wrangler and hunting guide, surveyor, truck driver, contractor, prospector, and long-time placer miner at Dublin Gulch with his partner Darrell Duensing. He moved a dredge from the 60-mile to Skagway in 1999 and started a tourism business to show the public how mining with a dredge was done.
Ron was a lifetime member of the Yukon Order of Pioneers and the Yukon Transportation Museum. He was proud of his Metis heritage.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the people involved in Ron’s care at Thomson Centre, Whitehorse, Yukon.
There will be no service as per Ron’s request.
We will miss you Grandad!
