~ In Loving Memory ~
Wilfred Bernard Carter, born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Born to Francis “Gordon” and Marjorie (Kinney) Carter, he was raised with love and care by his aunt and uncle, Lillian and Lawerence “Larry” Meagher.
Wilf grew up on the East Coast where he developed a love for lobster, politics and a good laugh. In his youth he spent his time at the camp, hunting, fishing and enjoying time with family. He moved out west where he met his wife, Donna (née Mitchell) Carter, who he shared many moments of joy with. Their children, Kimberley (Jared Hougen) and Mark (Rachel Sarna), were a source of pride and happiness for him.
Wilf is also survived by his sisters Rose Carter (Jim Johnson) and Barbara (Bernard) MacAskill, three grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Wilf is predeceased by his parents and brothers Basil (Margaret) and Earl (Anne Marie) Meagher.
He will be remembered for his hospitality, sense of humor, and iconic laugh that would brighten everyone’s day. His stories about his adventures and family as well as his love for hockey and good conversation will be missed.
In honour of Wilf, his family will be hosting a Celebration of Life with a short service followed by a catered reception to connect and share memories of Wilf. Everyone is welcome to join.
The family would like to extend heartfelt and sincere thank you to all the medical staff in Whitehorse and at Vancouver General Hospital for their attentive and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that a donation be made to Vancouver Easter Seals House, or Yukon Wildlife Preserve, or a charity of your choice.
