In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Beth) Van Ek at the age of 88.
Born and raised in Sooke, she met and married her husband of 66 years, Gerrit (Jerry) Van Ek.
Through Jerry’s work, they travelled and lived across Canada, the United States, and Europe, finally retiring in 1986 to her childhood home, “Meota”. She made Meota a very welcoming, heartfelt home and a gathering place for many friends, family, and visitors. She had the gift of hospitality, effortlessly and lovingly hosting many family functions and reunions.
If you could not find Beth cooking or baking, she was tending to the many dogs, cats, and sheep she had over the years. Her passion was her gardens, and she could be found planting, replanting, or potting any and all things different and of interest. Her gardens were often the setting of many functions she and Jerry hosted.
She was an active and long-time member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and volunteered in the community wherever needed.
Beth is survived by her husband, Jerry; her children, Jamie (Dave) Fulton, Kathleen Richardson, Sheila Van Ek, and Peter (Jen) Van Ek, her grandchildren, Courtney (James), Kirby (Val), James (Melanie), Evan (Jena), Tamara (Brandon), Trisha (Kyle); and 10 great grandchildren.
There will be no service as per her wishes.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in her memory.
She will be sorely missed by all.
May she rest in peace.
