Helen Irene Murray

In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Helen on November 18, 2023. She was predeceased by Bert, her much loved husband of 70 years in 2018.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Aldcroft (George), Lynn Stevenson (John) and Lori Prokopenko (Bob). She was a loving nana/ grandma to Kimberley, Christopher, Scott, Ryan, Tom and Dan. And great nana to Gus, Jacob, Lily, Charlotte, Sydney, Lola, Jett and Audrey. Helen is also survived by sisters in law Ruth and Gladys and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was born and grew up in Shoal Lake Manitoba. She taught in a one room school house, before marrying Bert and heading to Winnipeg. Mom, dad and girls headed west to BC in 1967, making their last move to Nanaimo in 1993 where they loved the island life.
Mom was an avid golfer and curler, winning many awards at both. She was known for her fair play and good sportsmanship. She loved playing cards and win or lose, was always happy for the winner. She was known for her upbeat attitude and was always up for some mischief. The family is so grateful for the compassionate care she received at Avenir’s Memoy Care.
