Jacquelyn (Jaci) Gaetz passed away peacefully at Ty Watson House on Saturday, May 27th, 2023, at the age of 76 years.
Jaci was born in Port Alberni to loving parents John & Mary, growing up on the farm with her sisters and extended family. Jaci went to school to become a nurse, but life would take her on a different path. Jaci loved dancing, suspense novels, crossword books, gardening, and happy hour. She was exceptional at knitting, crocheting and cross stitching. Christmas eve at Jaci’s house was a favourite family tradition for over 55 years.
Jaci loved bowling and over the past 50 years spent many hours on leagues with friends, coaching, playing in tournaments and eventually becoming part of staff at Rainbow Lanes. Jaci was a Master bowler and YBC coach. She was a beloved Special Olympics coach and won the Canadian special Olympic coach of the year in 2010.
Jaci is predeceased by her husband Don Gaetz, married over 40 years. She is survived, lovingly remembered, and deeply missed by her daughter Terri (Rob), son Christopher (April); Grandchildren Amy, Jenna (Cam), Kurtis (Rebecca); Sisters Kathy (Gerry), Lynne (Gerald) as well as many nieces and nephew. She is specially remembered as Gigi by Memphis, Hudson & Arturo, as well as her Nova Scotia family, and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 16th, 2023, at 1-3pm at the Port Alberni Lawn Bowling Club, 4255 Wallace Street. In Jaci’s Memory donations can be made to Special Olympics Bowling or Ty Watson House. An incredibly special thank you to the staff at Ty Watson House for the dignity and care given over these difficult few months.
