Johnny (John David) Hewison

October 22, 1933 – June 14, 2023
In loving memory ~
Johnny has taken his final journey to the plentiful fishing grounds on the other side. He was predeceased by his parents Milly & Jack, sisters Betty & Virgie, brother Tim and son Jeff, Johnny is survived by Joan, his wife of 69 years, brother George (Sherry), sister Joan, daughter Corinne (Rod), daughter in law Debbie, grandchildren Renee (Jarod), David (Jen), Chantell (Joel), Lucas & Casey, great grandchildren Jonathan, Hayden, Emmett & Ava & a whole lot of extended family & friends.
Johnny was born in Haida Gwaii where he spent his early childhood until the family moved to Campbell River in 1946. As a young man, he returned to Haida Gwaii to start his working life. He spoke often & with great affection of the “Charlottes” & his time there. He met & married his wife on Cortes Island in 1954. They settled in Willow Point, eventually moving with their children to their hobby farm on Quadra Island in 1972.
Johnny enjoyed a lengthy career as a commercial seine fisherman on the West Coast where he developed many lifelong friends & was well respected by those he worked with. He loved to learn, loved history & was an avid reader & in his later years enjoyed tending to his well-fed chickens, working in his garden, sharing stories with friends over a coffee & spending time with his grandchildren.
Johnny will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, easy smile & mischievous sense of humour. He was always ready with a joke or a funny story. He was never afraid of hard work or getting his hands dirty & was always willing to lend a hand or help a friend. Despite his mind failing in his later years, he never lost his sense of humour & willingness to share. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A very special thank you to Grace and all the lovely ladies at Discovery Harbour. We are so grateful for your tender care of him in his final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Quadra Island at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #154 on July 15th 1:00-3:00. All are welcome.
