In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. Marilyn died at Nanaimo Hospital on June 11 at the age of 91.

Marilyn was born in Lantzville on February 21, 1932, the first child of Martin and Esther Slogar. She lived all her life in the Nanaimo/Lantzville area. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Harry Roberts. They had three children.

When Harry owned Paramount Auto Body Shop, Marilyn managed the office. Marilyn enjoyed boating, and with Harry explored local waters and fishing (most successfully) at China Creek. Upon retirement, they travelled the world, from China to Australia and in between.

Up until five years ago, they travelled with their fifth wheel to the US and spent winters in Yuma, where they made some very special friends.

Family was important to Marilyn, she loved to cook (always trying new recipes) and hosted yearly family parties. She did marvellous cross stitch and needlework.

Predeceased by her parents, and her children Rodney, Tony and Gail. Marilyn is survived by Harry, her loving husband of 72 years; her brother Larry (Nancy) Slogar; sister-in-law Sue Gueulette; nieces Joanna (Nick) Farr and Julia Roberts (Ian Gartshore); nephews Edward (Sandee) Gueulette and Thomas (Crystal) Gueulette all of Nanaimo; niece Tricia Gueulette of Victoria; nephew Andy (Natalie) Roberts of Castlegar; nieces Fiona (Graham) Cowperthwaite and Maggie Farmer, and nephew John (Chrissie) Farmer. In England. She is also survived by the next generation of great-nieces and nephews, who loved her very much. Several cousins also survive.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Marilyn on July 8th, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church Hall, 100 Chapel Street.

Flowers are gratefully declined but memorial donations may be made to the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation, 1200 Dufferin Crescent, Nanaimo.
