The family of Murray Adam Scheck is saddened to share that on October 16, 2024 he left this world at the age of 70.
Murray leaves behind his beloved children Adam (Lisa Reid), Katherine, and Justine (Derek Cronmiller) and five wonderful grandchildren, Emerson Scheck, Aven and Fischer Scheck, Linden and Selwynn Cronmiller; his former spouse Barbara; sisters Coleen Guerin (Dennis), Beverly Chouinard (Michel), Valerie Viksush, and Carolina Hopkins (Dan); and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Valentine and Winona and brother-in-law Ken Viksush.
Murray was born in Berwyn, Alberta in the Peace River district on September 28, 1954, while his family was on a trip out of the Territory visiting his maternal grandparents.
Murray was the middle of five children and the only boy. During his childhood, the family lived on 8th and Strickland Street. With his parents frequently occupied running their small businesses, he enjoyed the freedom of living in a small town in the 50’s and 60’s. Murray attended Whitehorse Elementary, FH Collins, the Yukon Vocational and Technical Training Centre, and Yukon College.
Murray was known as a hard worker and gave his best, whether he was working at the Clinton Creek Mine, McInroy Disposals, Irving Collision, in Pelly Crossing for the Selkirk First Nation, the Cantung Mine, or running his own business, Northern Fibreglass Design.
Murray valued his family and friendships. In the last few years he was happiest puttering in his friend Terry’s garden in Carmacks, helping his friend Leo Martel work on restoring the Keno City Hotel, or with a coffee in hand listening to music at the 98 Hotel.
The family wishes to thank Terry Hanlon, Murray’s friends at the 98, Yukon Homecare, and the doctors and nurses in TC1 at the Whitehorse General Hospital.
Murray has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at Hellaby Hall, 4th and Elliot St, on Sunday November 10th, 2024, from 2-4 PM.
In memory of Murray, show gratitude to your local musicians.
