Public viewing will be Thursday, September 12, and Friday, September 13. The family will receive visitors, Friday, September 13, from 6 to 7:30 pm at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.Funeral services will be 11 am, Saturday, September 14, at the First Christian Church of Canadian, with Rev. John Miller officiating and Rev. Matt Cook assisting. The burial will follow at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.Jerel Norris was born September 23, 1948, in Canadian to Calvert and Gracie Pearl Norris. Jerel attended Canadian Schools and graduated with the class of 1967. He married his high school sweetheart, Diane Adams on October 13, 1966. Jerel attended Bible College at Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma City and Amarillo College. He enjoyed team roping and started the YL Cowboy Camp Meetings. Jerel was an active member of the Canadian First Christian Church and served on the North Plains Electric Board of Directors. He loved to joke with people; his banker, B.J. Patton called him “the chicken farmer” even though he didn’t own any chickens!Jerel was preceded in death by his parents, Calvert and Gracie Pearl Norris; a nephew, Greg Urschel; and brother-in-law, Dan Urschel.Those left to cherish Jerel’s memory are his wife, Diane Norris of Canadian; three children: Lisa McEntire and husband Keith of Krum, Laura Walser and husband John of Canadian, and Jered Norris and wife Lindsay of Canadian; two sisters: Jolene Urschel of Canadian and Karen Pitcock of Rogers, Arkansas; eight grandchildren: Trevor McEntire and wife Kellie, Sidney McEntire, Brittany Walser, Brooke Walser, Cole Walser, Henry Walser, Carsen Norris and Cooper Norris; three great-grandchildren, Luke, Landon and Lincoln McEntire; numerous nephews, niece and great nephews and nieces and other family and friends.Memorials may be made to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S.4th, Canadian, TX 79014 or First Christian Church of Canadian, PO Box 446, Canadian, TX 79014.
