Theo Berns

Theodorus Stephanus Berns at almost 94 years of age passed away peacefully on June 10th, 2023 in Victoria, BC. Theo was predeceased by his wife Reine in 2018 he leaves to mourn children Betty Rae (Jim), Johan Berns, Alex Berns, Annake McKay (Alex) Helena Arnold, Patrick Berns, and Albert Berns (Nadyne); 19 grandchildren (one predeceased); and eight great-grandchildren. Theo lived for over 50 years in Campbell River and was very involved in his church, business sector and community. He was instrumental in today’s very successful “Knights of Columbus Council 5468 Christmas Hamper Fund” in Campbell River. His philosophy and subsequent Mission Statement was “Anyone who thinks that they are in need of a hamper can apply at Christmas time.” Theo was Grand Knight five times with the Knights of Columbus, chairman of junior and senior soccer, started the North Vancouver Island Construction Association, for twelve years was involved with Construction Labour Relations organization and on the Board of Directors for BC Construction Association. Was a Legion member and was known to annually place a wreath on behalf of the Dutch Club which he was also involved in. He was a Parade Marshall for the Salmon Festival on numerous occasions, started Campbell River citizenship tea’s for after the ceremonies and was a very dedicated and convicted man in his church. He started a Pro-life group, was involved with the youth and on the Bishop’s Council and on his parish council as well.

Theo, once retired from his business Berns Drywall, travelled to many places around the globe with his wife and enjoyed many cruises, going dancing (even organizing dances) and was known to have a good time whenever audience participation was asked for.

Your family will truly miss you Dad, and Opa, may you now be reunited with your loved ones. Rest In Peace.

Funeral Mass was held on June 20th at St. Patrick’s Church Campbell River and internment of ashes will be at a later date. No flowers by request donations can be made to the Campbell River Knights of Columbus Hamper Fund.
