April 19, 1930 – May 18, 2023
In loving memory ~
Steel, Bruce Tyler, aged 93 of Brentwood Bay, B.C., passed away peacefully at home with his wife, Lorraine at his side and family around him, from near and far, on May 18, 2023.
Bruce was born April 19, 1930, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was the eldest child of Jerry and Muriel Steel. Bruce is predeceased by his sister Margo, baby brother Keith, and is survived by his brother, Lance Steel (Donna).
Bruce grew up in Stony Mountain, Manitoba. During WWII, at the age of 10, the family moved to England while his father served in the Canadian Military. Bruce himself was granted the position of “Mascot” for the Canadian Army and was trained as “Canada’s youngest soldier”. Returning to Canada, Bruce enlisted in the Military, and married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Sellars in 1952. Bruce and Lorraine lived from coast to coast growing their family of four daughters; Debra, Lynn (Allan), Carol (Randy) and Lori (Jordan). They have 7 grandchildren (Derek, Clarissa, Tanis, Todd, Matthew, Alexis and Landon) and 11 great grandchildren! Bruce’s passion was his home and garden where he and Lorraine resided for 43 years. Bruce/Dad/Papa, we hope you will smell the scents of your garden peonies and roses forever – you will be so deeply missed, and you are so deeply loved. Our family would like to extend our warmest gratitude to Dr. Ryan Liebscher for your most caring support. Bruce’s family will hold a private gathering in June to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, we welcome donations to the B.C. Cancer Agency.
