In loving memory ~
Caroline slipped away peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning at Fir Park Village after moving there from her home of 63 years on Exton Street. Caroline turned 100 years young on February 25th, 2023. She was predeceased by her loving husband Maurice Cullion and son Leslie, and is survived by her daughters Sylvie Cullion (Port Alberni) and Ghiselle (Rick) Meyers (Ottawa), her former daughter-in-law Netty Cullion (Tofino), grandsons Ryan Cullion (Vancouver), Kyle Cullion (Tofino), grandson Warren Meyers (Vancouver), granddaughter Emily Meyers (Adam) and great granddaughter Mackenzie Meyers (Ottawa).
Caroline was born and grew up in Achel, Belgium, lived and worked through the Second World War (hair stylist by day, waitress in her parent’s pub by night and smuggled goods back and forth across the Dutch border). During this time she met RCAF Airman Maurice “Mo” Cullion, who would, in 1948 become her husband. After marrying they moved to Chipman, New Brunswick where Sylvie and Leslie were born. They later moved to Sarita River, BC in 1953 where Ghiselle was born. In 1960 they moved into their new home on Exton Street in Port Alberni, where Caroline and Mo raised their family. We remember Caroline for her love of family, her relentless and excellent cooking and her wonderful sense of humour.
She will be sadly missed by all.
Catholic Funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on July 22, 2023. Caroline’s final resting place will be with her husband in the field of honour at Greenwood Cemetery.
