Katherine Anne ‘Kay’ Tobacco

In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine (Kay) Tobacco on June 3rd, 2023. Kay slipped away peacefully in her sleep at Glacier View Lodge with her kids by her side. Kay was 83 years old.
Born in Comox on March 28th, 1940, the youngest of three and only daughter of Tom and Ruby Brown, Kay spent her entire childhood in the Comox Valley. Growing up she enjoyed school, dancing, and summers at the beach cabin.
Kay met her future husband while attending a dance in Union Bay and they were married in 1961. Two years later they welcomed a daughter, Keri and then a son, Bradley two years after that.
Kay spent the kids’ early years at home with them until they were both in school. At that time, she too returned to school as a librarian for the Courtenay School district where she worked until her retirement.
Kay was quick to laugh and enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards and chatting over coffee, her door was always open. Over the years Kay enjoyed golf, curling, travel and had a passion for gardening. In her spare time she enjoyed going to plays, walking, reading, and sewing.
Her priority was always her family, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Kay is survived by her daughter Keri, son Brad, grandkids Riley, Reese and Ashlynn and her former husband and close friend Derrick.
The family would like to thank the staff of Glacier View Lodge for taking such good care of Kay over the past year.
It is the family’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of donations to Glacier View Lodge.
