June 10, 1925 – July 14, 2023
In loving memory ~
Eva Marie Atchison (Rachert) made her final journey on July 14th with her niece Daunine, nephew Joe and her cat Franie at her side.
Marie was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Grant, who passed away May 7th of this year. She will be sadly missed by all of her nieces and nephews, their children, their grandchildren and her numerous friends. She is survived by 3 Sisters-in-Law, Marion (Winnipeg), Maxine and Eileen (Edmonton). Her parents Barbara and John, as well as her Sister Erna (Ernie) and Brother Andrew (Therese) were waiting to greet her as she left us behind.
In Marie’s words, “I have had a wonderful life for 98 years. I loved Grant and he was the best husband ever.” They travelled the world together living in Whitby, Ontario; Midlothian, Texas; Werribbee, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; Seattle, Washington and finally Courtenay, B.C.
Their retirement farm was on Dove Creek Road. When that was too much for them they landed at Cinnamon Hill Farm with the Thorburn family, on an acre of land and in a modular home which was their dream.
Marie loved the hummingbirds and watched them with glee. She loved her flowers and the garden, she spoiled her cats rotten and they showered her with love throughout her life. She was a sharp cribbage player and pretended not to care when she ‘skunked’ her opponents. She exercised daily, even at 98. She had a beautiful smile and her eyes twinkled like diamonds when she was happy.
Marie has left an imprint on our hearts that will remain with us forever.
A very special Thank You to all of the amazing staff on unit 3B at the Comox Valley Hospital.
A funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Parish in Courtenay on Saturday, July 29th at 11 a.m. The funeral service will be live-streamed through the church. Her remains will be inured with her parents in Regina, Saskatchewan.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Palliative Care Unit at the Comox Valley Hospital.
