In loving memory ~
William Hoyem, formerly of Fairview and Fort St. John, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2023, in Campbell River at the age of 85.
Uncle Bill spent his youth on the farm in Dell, his formative years like so many young men of the area working for the HR&N Lumber and Estabrook Construction, his adult years working out of Fort St. John constructing roads and oilfield leases over the north, and the last 30 years exploring Campbell River. He accomplished all this despite being profoundly deaf.
As time progressed and life presented new challenges Bill went from the latest model of truck to the latest scooter. He was fearless on the scooter, taking it where it should not have gone and evaluating the range limits of the battery regularly.
He is predeceased by his parents Toodie (Velma Foster/Light) and Leif Hoyem, brother Lawrence, sister Leita Budnyk, and nephews James Hoyem and Marty Budnyk.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Earnestine/Rusty, nephew Jeffrey (Lee Ann); Jackson, Grant, and Nicole; nieces Catherine (Shawn) Luken; Cara (Lucas Novak) Luken and Chloe (Johnny) Lyttle and Dana (Dale) Kennedy; Seamus and Andrew.
We cannot thank his doctors and the staff at Yucalta Lodge enough for the kind and compassionate care that Bill received in the last 18 months. He absolutely loved his new Yucalta family and home. A special thank you to our guardian angel, Fran Pellegrin, whose friendship, and tireless advocacy will be forever appreciated.
As per Uncle Bill’s request, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place. His ashes will be placed at his favourite places.
Memorial donations in Bill’s name may be made to the Huntington Society of Canada at
