In Loving Memory ~
Carpenter, Firefighter, pilot, yachtsman, adventurer, raconteur. Dick has made his final voyage.
Predeceased by his wife, Susan in 1972, he will be most remembered for his years (1975- 2022) aboard his home-built sailboat, “BECAUSE”. Dick circumnavigated the globe, (1978-1985) with Australian companion Roz Woodhead, and around Vancouver Island 14 times. The last time was at age 79 with a long-lost childhood sweetheart.
Always “off-grid”, Dick spent his winters in Baja Mexico, (Juncalito)1988-2020, and summers aboard “BECAUSE”, often with grandchildren. His last 3 years were spent living with family in Brentwood Bay.
He enjoyed driving to the “Emporium”, walking at the Brethour Cemetery, and lunch at the “Dakota”. (Victoria Flying Club). He was a mentor to many and a great storyteller!
He leaves his daughters, Ruth, ( George, Ben, Jasmine, Catie) Roni, (Colin, Robin) And his son, Richard, (Alexis, Alena, Elizabeth) and 7 great-grandchildren.
When mutual friends gather, tell a “Dick” story and remember him fondly.
