June 14, 1936 – July 18, 2023
Elaine Carter Anderson, beautiful wife, mother, nana, great-nana, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Mom was born in Springhill, NS on June 14, 1936, to Georgia (nee Beaver) and Lewis Farrow, was the eldest of 7 children & grew up in a tight-knit, faith-filled family in Amherst, NS. Mom met Dad, William (Bill) Carter, when they were teenagers at the beach in Tidnish, NS and as Dad recalled, “The first time I laid eyes on her I said, ‘I’m gonna marry that girl!'”, and, as they say, the rest is history!
Here’s a glimpse into that history: within a year of marriage, Bill, Jr. was born, and shortly thereafter, Dad’s work in forestry took the family to the west coast where new adventures began. Over the next number of years, the family grew with daughters Dawn & Janet. During those years we lived in a variety of (mostly) “logging communities” on Haida Gwaii, Port McNeill, Gold River, Victoria, Port Alberni, and Richmond & finally settled in Nanaimo in 1973 where the family set down deep roots.
Aside from working as a cashier at the Co-op, for those who knew her, Mom’s real profession was a glamour girl! She loved fashion & had impeccable style.
While she was a true beauty on the outside, her inner self shone brightest. She was a woman with deep devotion & faith in Jesus & abundant love for her family. She was our greatest encourager & inspiration, she was a woman of compassion, shown in her dedication to serving others, most evidently, how she selflessly cared for our Dad when he had cancer (and passed).
Many years later, Mom was blessed with love again when she met & married Roy Anderson, a true gentleman, who shared the common bond of strong faith in Jesus & love for family. Together they enjoyed travelling, spending time with family & friends & their close church community.
In recent years, as Mom suffered from memory issues, Roy served her with gentleness, kindness & deep love and touched the hearts of all who witnessed.
God has poured into our lives in countless ways through Mom & we are thankful to Him – fully known & fully loved.
