In loving memory of Margaret “Peggy” Smythe (nee Campbell); born in County Tyrone, Ireland with a song in her heart and a jig in her step! Peggy emigrated to Canada in 1927. She lived in St. Bride’s, Alberta from 1927 to 1936 with 9 siblings. Predeceased by husband Harold and daughter Maureen. She is survived by children Peggy, Colin (Lorraine) and Larry (Chantal); grandchildren Christopher, JP, Angela (Shlomy), Shone (Elaine), Donyne (Jeff), Cory, Loralee and Tyler; and great-grandchildren Skyla, Royce, Hailey and Colton. Margaret was adventurous joining the Canadian Women’s Army Corps from which she attained the rank of sergeant. She drove 3 ton army trucks, tanks and received the Canadian Forces Decoration for 12 years of service. We will miss her plentiful jokes, crib games and keen sense of humor. Her friends and staff at Ironwood enjoyed her singing at karaoke along with her colorful costumes.
Margaret will be laid to rest next to her husband at McCall’s Gardens Victoria on August 3rd, at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to send out a huge thank you to the staff at Ironwood, CR Hospital and a very special thanks to Dr. Fourie for her compassion and care of mom. After 99 years on a road well-traveled, to all the loved ones…with a twinkle in her eye…she bids us farewell. May the road rise to meet you, May the sun shine warm upon your face, May the rains fall softly on your fields and until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand…God Bless you all.
